Benefits of CEREC Same-Day Restorations

Our office is pleased to offer Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics or CEREC technology, which has revolutionized the process of designing and delivering custom restorations. Thanks to the CEREC machine, we can design, fabricate and place fillings in a single appointment. The fillings are crafted from the finest materials for a great fit and extraordinary appearance. They restore teeth to excellent form and function quickly, so our Palo Alto CEREC fillings patients can get back to their busy lives.

Placing Tooth-Colored Fillings with CEREC

The process to place CEREC fillings begins with an examination performed by one of our dentists. We will examine the affected tooth to survey the decay and ascertain whether a filling or dental crown is the most appropriate solution. If we determine that a filling is the best answer, we will numb the tooth and remove the decayed portion. This is not painful or uncomfortable.

Once we have prepared the tooth for the CEREC filling, we will take digital impressions of the tooth. Digital impressions involve passing a small camera through the mouth; our patients much prefer this approach to the messy traditional impression material.

We will then send the digital impressions into the CEREC computer program that designs and plans the filling. The computer program will turn the impressions into a three-dimensional model of the tooth. We can then plan out the filling to our satisfaction right in the treatment room, as you follow along on the monitor.

When we are happy with the model of the filling, we will send the data to the CEREC milling machine. With your help, we will select the shade of filling material that best matches the remaining natural structure of the tooth being restored. Then, the CEREC milling machine will create the filling from the selected ceramic block.

This will take about 10 to 20 minutes. When the filling is ready, our dentists will try it on the affected tooth and look at its fit, testing it against the bite. If we are happy with its fit and your bite, we will bond the filling to the tooth using strong adhesive materials. Finally, we will polish the filling so it looks translucent against the natural tooth material.

With the proper care and attention, CEREC tooth-colored fillings can dependably last for many years. Our team will give you detailed instructions for caring for your new filling.
